As for inspiration, clouds are endlessly fascinating to me and of all the subject matter I paint, clouds are the most enjoyable. They are both totally realistic and completely abstract at the same time.
Most of the my landscapes are from memory/imagination, sometimes I use photos from around here (the Florida panhandle). I was raised on clear flat farm land where one could see for miles to the horizon. With this actual piece, I was kinda of thinking of my Uncle Bruce's Pasture, where you can see the edge of a small swamp pond just to the left. I loved the idea of these dark storm clouds casting shadows over the landscape with intense blue sky and white cloud shining through. I think it was the drama of the thing I wanted to show. I believe it balanced out well.
